Run for the Zoo at Lincoln Park Zoo

June 4, 2023

For more than four decades, runners of all levels and abilities have supported Lincoln Park Zoo with Run for the Zoo, now in its 45th year! Run for the Zoo makes it easy for anyone—from toddlers to elite athletes—to help support their favorite species at the zoo and save them in the wild.

Ambitious athletes can compete in the chip-timed 5K and 10K courses, which are U.S.A. Track & Field-certified. Families can enjoy a fun run or walk that accommodates every member of their group. And younger participants can take on the Kids' Course, a fun obstacle course built to have children running, climbing, and crawling! The race route winds in and around the zoo, allowing for views of Chicago’s skyline, Lake Michigan, protected natural areas, and zoo animals.

This year, Run for the Zoo is focusing attention on the Jamaican iguana, a critically endangered animal whose story marks an important, ongoing conservation success—and shows exactly why work done by institutions like Lincoln Park Zoo and its partners is so important. The 2023 Run for the Zoo supporter medal features this unique animal in a brand-new design. With pops of vibrant color, new textures, a mix of scenery, and other fun elements, this limited edition medal will be one you’ll want in your collection! You can get the 2023 Supporter Medal if you make a donation of $25 or more. It will remind you of the contribution you’re making to help save species around the world! And don’t forget to wear your medal proudly on race day this June 4.
