Legislative News
The following legislation makes it easier for businesses to remain profitable and navigate their requirements with the City of Chicago.
The Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce (LPCC) joined Alderman Tom Tunney, Alderman Vi Daley, Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) representatives and Mayor Richard M. Daley Saturday to officially open the Fullerton “L” station in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.
According to the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Public Radio, on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 Mayor Richard M. Daley announced plans to offer small business loans to promote business growth and a series of enforcement and policy changes to ease the burden on city staffing needs.
Government
To succeed and grow, your business needs to be heard. The LPCC is committed to our role as the “voice” of business in Lincoln Park and advocates on behalf of our members at the state and local level. Whether you are concerned about transportation, taxes, zoning and development, or business regulation, the LPCC has your business’ interests at heart. Our advocacy efforts are focused on driving economic development and job growth to ensure that Lincoln Park continues to be a vibrant place to do business. Throughout the year, we provide members with a variety of opportunities to learn more about the issues affecting local businesses, including legislative events, where you can interact with elected officials; our government affairs committee, through which you can more actively address issues vital to the business community; and legislative updates on our website and in our publications where you can find the latest political news that affects Lincoln Park.
Government Affairs Committee
The LPCC's Government Affairs Committee began in January 2008 to take a proactive approach to legislative issues affecting the Lincoln Park business community. The Government Affairs Committee performs issue and policy research, and recommends policy positions, including a yearly legislative agenda, to the LPCC Board of Directors. The committee also works with elected officials to propose legislation that will enhance the Lincoln Park business community. Participation on the Government Affairs Committee is open to any LPCC member and no prior legislative experience is required. Testimonial
“Like with any small business, my company is a direct stakeholder in the issues relating to Government Affairs – from permit and licensing requirements, zoning, taxation liability, all the way to employment and insurance laws. LPCC member involvement in the Government Affairs Committee is critical in order to ensure the direct voice of small business is heard by lawmakers at all levels of government.” – Mory Matias, Dryer Vent Wizard
“Directly connecting with fellow members on the Government Affairs committee to address a variety of public policy issues at the state and county levels impacting our members has been a rewarding way for me to feel like I’m giving back to the LPCC. Advocating on behalf of our members through responding to pending legislation and strengthening our partnerships with elected officials and neighborhood associations is one of many ways to stay involved in the LPCC!”
