Government Affairs Committee

The LPCC Government Affairs Committee began in January 2008 to take a proactive approach to legislative issues affecting the Lincoln Park business community. The Government Affairs Committee performs issue and policy research and recommends policy positions on four key legislative areas that affect the Lincoln Park business community.

LPCC Legislative Priorities

1. Transportation
Improving and maintaining the transportation system that supports those who work, live and visit Lincoln Park is vital to the economic health of our commercial districts.

2. Tax Climate
The LPCC recognizes that a competitive and fair tax climate is key to successful economic development and job growth. We are opposed to any state, regional or local tax that creates an unfair burden on businesses in Lincoln Park.

3. Zoning and Development
The LPCC strongly believes that responsible zoning and development projects take into account the potential economic impact of the community, including traffic and congestion issues.

4. Economic Burden
The LPCC is strongly opposed to any state, regional or local regulation that places an undue economic burden or competitive disadvantage on local businesses.

Based on the four legislative priorities listed above the Government Affairs Committee recommends a yearly legislative agenda to the LPCC Board of Directors. The legislative agenda is used to communicate the LPCC’s legislative positions on specific issues and is distributed to all elected officials serving Lincoln Park. Read the 2010 LPCC Legislative Agenda (pdf).

Advocacy

As a membership organization featuring approximately 550 members, we are often asked by the media about our position on local issues, and in many cases, we proactively share our position - the business-friendly position - with members of the press, key local blogs and other business leaders.  Have an issue you feel strongly about? Let us know.

The LPCC's Government Affairs Committee is committed to sharing the most up-to-the-minute news on local, state and national policy decisions affecting businesses.  Click here for the most recent Legislative News.  With new policies, fees and taxes seemingly added on a daily basis, the LPCC is working closely with Lincoln Park aldermen Vi Daley (43rd) and Scott Waguespack (32nd) to keep the best interests of businesses in mind, inform businesses of new policies - both planned and implemented - and help shape legislation whenever possible.
