Block Club Chicago Brings Neighborhood News Back
Posted on February 21, 2018
Block Club Chicago is a nonprofit news organization set to launch in the Spring. Formed by formed DNAinfo Chicago editors and reporters, Block Club is bringing back reliable, nonpartisan, and essential coverage to Chicago’s wide range of unique neighborhoods.
In November of 2016, DNAinfo Chicago suddenly shut down. With this came a void of localized news for Chicago’s neighborhoods. Former editors and reporters from DNAinfo saw this void, and decided it was time to step up and make a change.
This is how Block Club Chicago was born. It is set to launch in the spring of this year, and bring back a source of local neighborhood news that Chicago so desperately needs. Through a commitment to building community and active audience engagement, Block Club will cover the valuable and important stories that are often overlooked by traditional news media.
Because Block Club is a nonprofit, every cent they make will go back into covering relevant neighborhood news. Their plan is to build a sustainable site that will have a lasting impact and cover as much of the city as is feasible. Block Club says they are ready to tell the stories that matter, and we can’t for these stories to have a voice.
