Emerald City Theatre Receives $500,000 Gift
March 24, 2017
Emerald City Theatre (ECT) recently received a gift in the amount of $500,000. The gift was presented at ECT’s March 2nd fundraising event by North Avenue Day Nursery (NADN) board members Nina Gonzalez and David May (also a board member of Emerald City Theatre). The North Avenue Day Nursery, a provider of childcare and early childhood education for over 108 years to low-income families of Chicago, had to close its doors at the end of 2016. Says board member David May, “Despite its wind-down, NADN will have a lasting impact on children of Chicago by providing grants from the sale of its building to a handful of other amazing charities also serving low-income children of Chicago.”
Executive Director and Co-Founder Karen Cardarelli says, “Emerald City Theatre is fully committed to continuing the legacy of service to Chicago’s low-income children. We are hugely grateful to NADN and its Board of Directors for this immensely generous gift.”
The $500,000 will be used to address company debt, establish cash reserves, and direct strategic initiatives to ensure a secure future for the company and support for its mission to help Chicago’s children creatively face the world.
