Commander Paul R. Bauer

We are heartbroken to learn about the tragic loss of 18th District Police Commander Paul R. Bauer yesterday afternoon at the Thompson Center while assisting a tactical unit in chasing a suspect. Commander Bauer was a dedicated member of the Chicago Police Department, as shown by his brave and selfless actions during yesterday’s events.

Commander Bauer came to the 18th District in 2016 and left a positive mark on policing in our community. His honest, open-door policies, combined with a deep understanding of the complexities of policing and a passion for the work he did, helped combat the serious issues our city and our District face. We consider ourselves very lucky to have had Commander Bauer’s intuition and skills leading the efforts to keep our District safe.

These events serve as a reminder of the challenges faced and sacrifices made by those serving in the Chicago Police Department. We are forever thankful for the years of service Commander Bauer gave to our district and our city. Please keep him, his family, friends, and his brothers and sisters in the Chicago Police Department in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
