Read It and Eat 2nd Birthday and Independent Bookstore Day
Read It & Eat is building a day full of events to celebrate Independent Bookstore Day — a one-day national party at indie bookstores across the country and the fact that they are turning the big o-two. In their case, there will be food of course! They’ll have plenty of snacks to go around, including scoops from Dana Cree’s Hello My Name Is Ice Cream from 12 to 6 p.m.

In addition to book signings from some of their favorite local authors and esteemed California chef Jeremy Fox, they will also play two rounds of Foodie Fight: A Trivia Game for Serious Food Lovers. The store will also be open an extra hour (until 8 p.m.) and every purchase will be 15% off throughout the day. Everyone is welcome!

Art and science are often seen from the opposite ends of the education spectrum. But, in reality, they are more connected than we may think. Science and art are both methods to understand our place in the world and why things happen the way they do. Join Victory Gardens after this evening’s performance of QUEEN for a post-show full of science-related poetry; applying math and science to the arts, applying art to math and science.

Saints and Sinners is a storytelling night that explores that grey area through personal stories that defy being put neatly into a box. For this edition, Nancy Garcia, Isaac Gomez, Daniela Mauleon, Jose Nateras, Avi Roque, Nelson Rodriguez and Edgar Sanchez, will riff off of what Saints and Sinners mean to them through stories that deal with breaking open the boxes that have tried to confine them, bringing us all closer to understanding what Latinidad means.

Join us for an urban twist on the classic Cinderella fairy tale. Cinderella, an amazing DJ, is stuck in her Stepmother’s basement and forced to give up her beats to her stepbrother, Chocolate Ice. When the famous J Prince announces auditions for his Hip-Hop Hollywood “Jam,” Cinderella goes in disguise trying to score the biggest gig in the land. Recommended for ages 5 and up.
