Victory Gardens Theater and Emerald City Theatre Announce Play Pals

Posted on May 26, 2017

Victory Gardens Theater and Emerald City Theatre announce Play Pals, a collaboration between the two companies that provides a theater experience for the whole family. During the 3:00 PM performances of Native Gardens at Victory Gardens Theater on Sunday, June 4 and Sunday, June 11, children ages 4 – 11 will engage in critically-acclaimed theater education workshops from Emerald City Theatre while their parents attend a performance of Native Gardens. Tickets are $40 and include one adult ticket to Native Gardens and up to three student admissions to the theater workshop.

Through an afternoon of theater games and activities, students will engage their voices, bodies, and minds to explore storytelling, create characters, and build confidence. Emerald City Theatre’s experienced teaching artists will provide children the opportunity to enhance their social, emotional, and cognitive skills, and grow in their understanding of basic theater principles.

During the student workshops, adults will attend a performance of playwright Karen Zacarais’s comedy Native Gardens, directed by Marti Lyons. Pablo, a high-powered lawyer, and his pregnant wife Tania, a doctoral candidate, think they have hit the jackpot with their new home. It seems to have everything they dreamed of: a nice neighborhood, plenty of bedrooms for their growing family, outdoor space, and friendly neighbors. When Pablo and Tania decide to upgrade the eyesore chain link fence in their backyard, neighbors Virginia and Frank couldn’t be happier, at least until they think their new neighbors are taking more than they deserve.

Tickets are $40 and include one adult ticket to Native Gardens and up to three student admission to the Emerald City Theatre education workshop. Tickets are available with the code EMERALD at the Box Office, by calling 773.871.3000 or online at www.victorygardens.org.
