Hospital, LPCC Member Improves Services
The Illinois Department of Public Health has designated Saint Joseph Hospital in Lincoln Park as a Level III Perinatal Care facility, effective immediately. Level III designation by the IDPH reinforces the hospital’s ongoing commitment to reduce maternal and infant mortality, as well as to adhere to the extremely rigorous standards that a Level III designation requires. Since 1985, Saint Joseph Hospital has cared for extremely premature infants, including those born as early as 23 weeks gestation.
The program is led by Ramakrishna Velamati, M.D., neonatology section chief, and Michael Hussey, M.D., director, maternal and fetal medicine. Both physicians will continue to lead a multidisciplinary team of pediatric physician specialists, respiratory therapists, nurses, dieticians and other staff members who work daily with high risk mothers and neonates to produce superb outcomes and save lives.
