Driver’s License and License Plates

Need to get your driver’s license? It’s recommended that new residents who own motor vehicles should get a new Illinois driver’s license within 90 days of moving to Chicago. To obtain your driver’s license, you will need to bring three forms of identification. One ID must have your date of birth with proof of Illinois residency.

There are four Chicago locations to obtain your Illinois license and auto registration:

Illinois License Plates

It’s important to register your car and get your Illinois license plates within 30 days of moving to Chicago. To register your auto, you must have an Illinois Certificate of Title that shows you own your vehicle. This can be obtained from the Illinois Secretary of State Office, located in the Illinois State Building at:
