The National Shrine of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini presents Celebrating Mother Cabrini – Her Life & Legacy

It is through Mother Cabrini’s arrival in Chicago in 1899, that she, along with her sisters, walked the streets begging for money, looking for appropriate buildings to purchase that she would later develop to serve poor immigrant communities. Mother Cabrini’s business acumen was spot on through her founding of Assumption School (on Erie Street, not far from the Driehaus Museum), Columbus Hospital (in Lincoln Park) and Columbus Hospital Extension (Cabrini Hospital on the west side). Mother Cabrini made significant impacts in education, healthcare, and the social well-being of countless lives in Chicago. 

Hosted by Ana Belaval of WGN-TV's Around Town, this annual fundraiser is an exciting opportunity to help raise money to fund outreach programs. This past year alone, they partnered with Chicago Street Medicines to provide survival kits to migrants and homeless. They then raised funds to provide 120 backpacks with school supplies, to children in grades 1-8 and their most recent partnership was with Uncle Pete Ministries where they helped provide 300 sandwich packs to those in need. They plan on continuing these programs, as well as expand those to include a Christmas clothing drive for specific families in need, develop a school curriculum with the Archdiocese of Chicago for children to learn about Mother Cabrini and her impact around the world.
