Discover the joy of capturing the world around you with pen and watercolor in a relaxed, beginner-friendly urban sketching class. Designed for those new to sketching or looking to refresh their sketchbook practice, this session offers a welcoming introduction to the fundamentals of urban sketching, with a special focus on observation, simplicity, and enjoyment of the process.
The class begins with a guided overview of basic techniques, including composition, line work, and quick watercolor washes. Participants then have the opportunity to explore and sketch throughout the beautiful and inspiring spaces of the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum—from the lush Judy Istock Butterfly Haven to unique exhibits and surrounding city architecture.
All levels are welcome, with special emphasis on beginners. Participants will leave with new skills, increased confidence, and several pages of their own visual storytelling.
No perfection is required—just curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to look more closely.
Basic sketching materials are provided, though participants are welcome to bring their own. Class tickets also include museum admission for the day.
