2018 Minimum Wage Increases

Posted on April 11, 2018

A new wage increase goes into effect on July 1, 2018. This is part of the 2014 Chicago ordinance that raised the minimum wage on a five-year, graduated scale so businesses would not have to experience “wage shock.”

The new wage for a non-tipped employee will be $12.00 per hour. The wage rate for tipped employees is linked to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and has not yet been announced. We hope this will be announced soon.

The final wage increase will occur on July 1, 2019 ($13.00 per hour) and by 2020, wages will be chained to the CPI.

Please note that employers are required to post this notice in a conspicuous location.
