Emerald City Theatre Announces 2018 – 2019 One Fund Winners

Posted on April 11, 2018

Emerald City Theatre (ECT) announced the 19 winning schools of the 2018 – 2019 One Fund grant on Tuesday. ECT’s One Fund program is the company’s signature outreach initiative, providing a free performance and free companion book to low-income Chicago Public Schools (CPS) students. The One Fund grant was created to support the improvement of CPS students’ reading abilities.

With these awards, the One Fund will reach 3,632 students with limited access to arts programming throughout the 2018 – 2019 school year. One Fund programming is for students in kindergarten – 3rd grade in schools with 80% or greater low-income populations. These winning schools have an average of 94.5% low-income students. The 19 schools are located in 16 neighborhoods across Chicago’s North, West, and South sides.

$125,000 of programming and books will be delivered in the following ways:

  • Grand Prize winner William G Hibbard Elementary will receive a Read, Write, & Act Classroom Residency with ECT Teaching Artists
  • Grand Prize runners-up Sabin Dual Language Magnet School and Joyce Kilmer Elementary will receive three in-school workshops
  • All winners will receive a free performance and free companion book
