Emerald City Theatre Announces 2019 – 2020 One Fund Winners

Posted on May 16, 2019

Emerald City Theatre (ECT) announced the 25 winning schools of the 2019– 2020 One Fund grant. ECT’s One Fund program is the company’s signature outreach initiative, providing a free performance and free companion book to underserved Chicago Public Schools (CPS) students. The One Fund grant was created to support the improvement of CPS students’ reading abilities.

With these awards, the One Fund will reach 4,235 students with limited access to arts programming throughout the 2019 – 2020 school year. One Fund programming is for students in kindergarten – 3rd grade in schools with low-income student populations. These winning schools have an average of 98.7% low-income students. The 25 schools are located in 20 neighborhoods across Chicago’s North, West, and South sides.

Programming and books will be delivered in the following ways:
• Grand Prize winner Sabin Elementary Magnet School will receive a Read, Write, & Act Classroom Residency with ECT Teaching Artists
• Grand Prize runners-up Benjamin E Mays Elementary School and Frederic Chopin Elementary School will receive three in-school workshops
• All winners will receive a free performance and free companion book

The One Fund Committee reviewed all applications and determined final winners. This year’s campaign raised just over $85,000. The One Fund is powered by KPMG’s Family for Literacy, the One Fund Committee, and many generous individual donors.
