New Year, New Laws

Posted on January 9, 2020

Ready for this year’s employment law changes? Here are two new laws that you may have missed.

Equitable Restrooms Act
As of January 1, 2020, Illinois requires single occupancy restrooms to be gender neutral. Therefore, any commonly used signage representing “women” or “men” must be removed and replaced with gender neutral signage.

Recreational Cannabis Act
Based on amendments to Illinois Cannabis Act that Governor Pritzker signed into law on December 4, 2019, and which became effective January 1, 2020, employers may withdraw employment offers to applicants based on a positive test for marijuana and conduct random drug tests and terminate based on a positive test for marijuana.
